Mobile AC Refrigeration Lubricants

CPI Offers a Variety of Mobile AC Solutions

The requirements for automotive ac compressor systems are unique, and require lubricants designed specifically for use with the components & refrigerant in that system.  CFC-12 auto ac systems, for example, use mineral oil lubricant products.  Most HFC-134a systems use a synthetic lubricants called polyalkylene glycol (PAGs) or polyol esters (POEs).  The shift to PAGs and POEs occurred because mineral oils were not suitable for use with HFC refrigerants such as R-134a .

CPI Fluid Engineering offers Emkarate® and Solest® POE lubricants, as well as the RPAG series of PAG lubricants. These are specially formulated for use in vehicle air conditioning systems.

Lubricants Engineered Specifically for the System

RPAG Series

CPI®-RPAG polyglycol lubricants are specially formulated for use in vehicle air conditioning systems running on R134a. Developed for original fill and top up, CPI®-RPAG lubricants feature excellent chemical and thermal stability, improved wear performance and extended compressor life. They provide the correct miscibility to use over a wide operating temperature range. [link to RPAG]

Emkarate®

Emkarate® RL 2000 is an ISO 68 synthetic polyol ester (POE) lubricant formulated specifically for use in refrigeration and air-conditioning compressors using HFC refrigerants. This product provides effective wear protection for steel and aluminum surfaces for increased system life and improved efficiency and is suitable for both initial fill and service fill. The combination of low temperature characteristics and unparalleled chemical and thermal stability enable the use of Emkarate® RL 2000 over a wide operating temperature range. [link to RL 2000]

Solest®

Solest 68AC is an ISO 68 synthetic polyol ester (POE) lubricant formulated specifically for use in refrigeration and automotive air-conditioning compressors using HFC refrigerants, typically R134a. This product provides effective wear protection for steel and aluminum surfaces for increased system life and improved efficiency and is suitable for both initial fill and service fill. The combination of low temperature characteristics and unparalleled chemical and thermal stability enable the use of Solest 68AC over a wide operating temperature range. [link to Solest 68AC]

Changes in regulations requiring refrigerant gases with lower GWP also affect the mobile ac market.  The auto industry in a transition from using R-134a as the refrigerant gas in air conditioning systems to lower GWP alternatives.  The gas most commonly used as a replacement is HFO-1234yf.  CPI has worked to develop lubricant solutions for this refrigerant in mobile ac applications [list OEM approval].

Emkarate®

Emkarate® RL 3000 is a VG 85 synthetic polyol ester lubricant formulated specifically for use in open-drive and hermetic mobile air-conditioning compressors using HFC and HFO refrigerants. This product provides effective wear protection for metal surfaces for increased system life and improved efficiency and is suitable for both initial fill and service fill.  Emkarate RL 3000 has the required miscibility characteristics along with unparalleled chemical and thermal stability which enables the use of this product over a wide operating temperature range.
